Day Trip to St. John’s – USVI

Trunk’s Bay – The most beautiful beach ever!

During our trip to St. Thomas, (read about it here) we were also lucky enough to visit St. John. I beg you, if you are staying on St. Thomas, you MUST plan a day trip to St. John. Heck, I would even tell you to skip St. Thomas altogether and just stay on St. John!

St. John is absolutely stunning, seriously the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen.  If you stay in St. Thomas you can take a passenger or car ferry to St John. We opted to take the Big Red Barage car ferry which is about a thirty-minute ride. I recommend going this route; renting a car and taking the ferry over allows you to beach hop. If you choose the passenger ferry, there appeared to be an abundance of taxi shuttles.

Be warned if you rent a car:

  • In St. John and St. Thomas, they drive on the left side of the road.
  • The roads are very narrow, steep, and windy, especially in St. John
  • There are random donkeys in the middle of the road in St John.
  • Splurge and get the jeep โ€“ This is a must. One way we save money when we travel is that we always rent the cheapest car we can find. It was a mistake on this trip. Our little Nissan could not make it up one of the steep hills in St. John, It was terrifying and it put us in a very dangerous situation.

Okay enough about the cars and onto the beach!! My top recommendation is Trunk Bay. The sand is like baby powder, the water was warm, clear and very calm the day we were in town. Hands-down the most pristine, beautiful beach I have seen. Go early and you will have the place almost to yourself.

My second favorite beach was honeymoon beach. Here they had a bar, snnack shop and a spot to rent snorkel equipment. I highly recommend bringing or renting snorkel gear. You can swim pretty far out and were able to spot some stingrays!

Remember to pack sunscreen and bug spray! Also note, most of the beaches have a small entry fee.

Tell me, where do you prefer? St. John or St. Thomas?

Childfree Legend:
๐Ÿ‘ถ โ€“ The best of child-free locations โ€“ No kids allowed!!
๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ โ€“  Kids allowed, but there are adult areas or not many children present.
๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ โ€“ Children are present.
๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ โ€“ DANGER ZONE โ€“ Too many kids to be enjoyable

Verdict:
๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ ๐Ÿ‘ถ These are public beaches, there are a lot of children. To avoid, go in the early morning.

XOXO!!
